Make your favorite Mexican restaurant meal even faster in the air fryer! Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas are the perfect quick and easy meal for busy weeknights or meal prep. Juicy and perfectly seasoned chicken with plenty of onion and bell peppers are ready in only 30 minutes!
Fajitas are one of my favorite meals to make, and I’ve made them every possible way you can think of.
I’ve made sheet pan chicken fajitas, crockpot chicken fajitas, classic chicken fajitas, and now these air fryer chicken fajitas!
Making them in the air fryer is by far my favorite version of quick weeknight meals. Here’s why I love them so much!
- Quick cook time. This recipe is ready in 30 minutes from start to finish, making it perfect for weeknight dinners when you’re short on time or don’t know what to make. Just toss the ingredients together and throw them in the air fryer!
- Easy, no-fuss ingredients. These air-fryer chicken fajitas use pantry-staple spices, and common everyday ingredients like chicken, onion, and bell peppers.
Ingredients
- Chicken breast: I used boneless skinless chicken breast, but feel free to use chicken thighs.
- Onions and bell peppers: I used red onion and a mixture of red, green, and yellow peppers but you can use white or yellow onion and any mix of bell peppers.
- Seasonings: I used a combination of chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, paprika, black pepper, and kosher salt to make a flavorful fajita seasoning.
- Olive oil: Olive oil helps crisp the chicken and fajita vegetables evenly in the air fryer.
- White wine vinegar:dds some acidity and tenderizes the chicken. If you don’t have this type of vinegar, you could use apple cider vinegar or white distilled vinegar instead.
- Garnish: Topping off the chicken fajitas with fresh lime juice and chopped cilantro makes all the difference and adds lots of great flavor.
How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas
Preheat your air fryer to 390℉. Preheating your air fryer is important so the chicken fajitas cook evenly.
Prepare the fajitas. Add the chicken, onions, bell peppers, olive oil, white wine vinegar, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, paprika, black pepper, and kosher salt to a large bowl. Toss together gently to combine and evenly coat the chicken and vegetables with the seasonings.
Air fry. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook in batches. I cooked mine in 2 batches. Place half of the chicken fajitas into the air fryer basket and air fry for 11 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. Transfer the first batch of chicken fajitas into a bowl or serving platter.
Repeat this process with the remaining chicken fajitas.
Garnish and serve. Once all the chicken fajitas are cooked, top with fresh lime juice and chopped cilantro. Serve with warm corn or flour tortillas, guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream.
Tips
- Shaking the air fryer basket halfway through is important so the chicken fajitas are cooked and browned evenly.
- If you have an extra large air fryer or an air fryer with two baskets, this recipe is even quicker and ready in about 15-20 minutes.
How to Serve Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas
You can serve these air fryer chicken fajitas with traditional fajita sides and fix-ins or mix it up. Here are some of my recommendations:
- Guacamole and pico de gallo
- Corn or flour tortillas
- Mexican potatoes
- Authentic Mexican Rice
- Cilantro Lime Rice
- Roasted tomato salsa or pineapple salsa
Variations
- Use chicken thighs or chicken tenderloins instead of chicken breasts.
- You can make a batch of my homemade taco seasoning and use it in this recipe and save it for other recipes.
Storing and Reheating
To store, place the chicken fajitas in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.
To reheat, heat in the microwave in 30-second increments until warmed through, or reheat in the air fryer for 5 minutes
